Professional Internship Opportunities with Israel's Leading Environmental Organizations
Interested in working to protect Israel's environment? JGEN can match college students, recent graduates and young professionals (ages 18-35) with professional internship positions in many of Israel's environmental organizations. The program is designed for those who want to gain a sense of everyday life in Israel. Interns can gain valuable work experience in environmental organizations and agencies throughout the country. The internship program runs throughout the year and placements can be made at anytime that is mutually convenient for the intern and the employer. It is run in conjunction with the Jewish Agency’s Stagerim program, which provides a small stipend of $75/month and provides lectures and trips, and information on cultural and social events. In 2004, eleven North American interns were placed with Israeli environmental organizations, including Friends of the Earth Middle East (FOEME), Green Course, the Israeli Union for Environmental Defense (IUED), and the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI). The interns worked for periods ranging from one to four months on a wide range of topics, including: water and energy issues, coastal protection, environmental PR and media and preparing for the nomination of the Dead Sea as a World Heritage Site.
